History in the Future.

History is a funny thing.

For starters, the word itself is two words:  HIS, and STORY.  Kinda crammed together and removing one ‘S’, but you see what I mean.  And that was intentional, I assure you.  When the word was created, translated from latin or whatever it was, the person or persons who chose it, didn’t choose Herstory, they didn’t choose Ourstory.

It’s HIStory.

And this wasn’t so much meant as a slight against women, I don’t think, but rather a (unconcious?) acknowledgement that history itself, is written by the winners.  The conquerers.  And at the time, those were the Men.  The Kings.

I am not a King.  Some people would so hilarious joke that I’m barely a man.  But I am a writer, and I do have stories to tell.  I am literally creating History, passively and intentionally.  Among the dozen or so stories I have in my head, I have in mind to create a trade paperback — not, a graphic novel — telling various stories from my own personal history.  Inside, will be three types of stories:

1)  True stories from my past,

2)  Rants and,

3)  Short stories.

Some of them will be graphic, meaning drawn and lettered, and others will simply be text.  All of them very personal, and all of them a reflection of me and how I feel about the world.  I am hoping each volume will be 64 pages, drawn (when necessary) by various people, and loved by at _least_ a dozen people.  :P

I will write History.

Volume 1 to be released … Q1 2009.

Marvel Sketch cards, because we need an update!

Hello untrue believers! (I can say that, can’t I?) I’m back with a long overdue update to this here website o’mine! Well, first off, damn it’s been too long since I updated the site! So sorry to all of you (you know who you are looky-lou’s) who have been popping by from time to time looking for new stuff. I assure you there is stuff on the way. When it will actually be done, well………SOON! :D

In the meantime, pop on over the our gallery section and check out some updates courtesy of me. I had the awesome opportunity to do up some Marvel sketch cards for Upper Deck’s Marvel Masterpiece series 2 set and they are all loaded up for you to peruse! I had a blast doing them, so much so that I signed on to do 50 more of these cool little cards for UD’s Marvel Masterpiece 3 set. Hopefully I’ll receive them soon and then I’ll post them up too! As well I’ve loaded a couple of new pin-up pieces, and over the next few days I’ll be doing my best to add a long overdue links page of all our friends. Provided I can figure out how to, that is!

And because I’m on here, and I can, I’ll update you all on some other stuff that’s been going on. As those who pop by know, Kevin and I, as well as our good friend Richard Grzela attended the Calgary Expo this year, and although it was slower than we would have liked we had a great time! It was awesome to meet and chat with those who came by the booth, and we had fun drawing up some cool sketches for those who wanted them. Thanks to everyone who came by! A couple of weeks after the Calgary show I was fortunate enough to travel with Chris Peterson and Nick Johnson from Vicious Ambitious down to Seattle to attend the Emerald City Comic Con! It was a truly awesome experience, as we had the opportunity to meet some really cool creators and the guys got some real quality one-on-one time with the Comic publishers who were there, and we all came out of the show feeling really good about the trip. The Emerald City show is a truly great show and a wonderful convention experience for anyone looking to attend a show south of the border. We had so much fun that we’re thinking of setting up next year! They’re really indy comic friendly in Seattle, and that sounds right up my alley! Time will tell I suppose.

I’m also really excited as in a weeks time I’ll be down in San Diego for my 6th in a row Comic-con International experience! SDCC is the largest show in North America and is a dream setting for any and all geeks out there. I’m truly excited to get to go down again and fanboy out with all my favorite creators and stars, as well as some good friends from Edmonton and Calgary making the trek down on the Happy Harbor Landcruise. It will be a good time as always and I’ll do what I can to get some cool pictures and document the great experiences I’m bound to have this year!

That’s it for now. With any luck I’ll have another update soon with some info on what coming up from OOMS, as well as some of the cool stuff I’m working on personally. Thanks for stopping by, and as always, take care all!

An update, complete with a cheap plug!

Hello OOMS-heads! Grifter here with another fantabulous update! OK, it’s not that fantabulous, but it’s still an update and thats gotta count for something, right?

Anyways, 9 doors will not be available for the Calgary Expo this weekend, but in it’s place will be the cute little story entitled “Fairy Tale Sins”. This story was originally published in Tales from the Harbor Vol.2, and it was just too much fun to not go back to. And now it comes complete with a cute little cover depicting a certain “wooden boy” caught in the act of “expanding his mind”. It’s a fun little book, and I’ll have limited copies of it available at the Expo this weekend, as well as 3 new prints and a cool portfolio mini sampler that is sure to impress one and all. So if you get the chance, pop on down to the Round-up Center this weekend, visit us at booth 806 and say hi! Myself, Kevin, and my good friend Richard Grzela will be on hand to chat you up, guilt you into buying stuff, and all around having fun! Richard and I will also be doing $5 convention sketches both days, so if you have a character you really like and want to see it drawn by us, we’ll be happy to do it for you. Take care all, and I hope to see some familiar faces as well as a bunch of new ones! Cheers!

9 Doors is coming to haunt you.

Howdy kidlets! Crazy man Grifter here with another fantastic, “brought to you in OOMSVISION” update! I’ve been hard at work, slave driving myself to get my new book done, and thought I’d share the cover with you all while I’m taking a much needed “carpal tunnel” break! So here it is, in all it’s glo……..well I’m not sure what to say about it, other then I like it! And hopefully so will you.

9 Doors is the “unofficial” follow-up to Never the Less, the ashcan issue we put out a couple of years ago, and continues to follow main character Alex Tossman on his quest of self discovery. It will also be the launching point for my long overdue OGN entitled “Underloved” which will be released later this year!

The book is an experiment of sorts for me, as I’m not really following conventional story telling methods, and I’m just blasting whatever comes to mind onto the page. It also will act as the debut for the new face of OOMS, R.E.M.I. the Robot, as he plays muse to Alex on his mind bending trip through the 9 doors of his psyche. With any luck we’ll have it back for the Calgary Expo next weekend, but if not, no worries. I’ll get it into the hands of our retailer friends as soon as I can!

So for now, here’s the cover! I have to get back to my inking duties, and continue my quest to cripple myself! Take care all!

A pin-up done for SDCC 2008!

Hello one and all (I see you!). Every year the San Diego Comic-con gives out a Souvenir Book free to all the fine folks who make the trek down. And every year they open that book up to the public so that fans and pros alike can contribute art pieces or articles based on a variety of themes that usually happen to be based on an anniversary. That anniversary can range from the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars ( a theme from last year) to the 50th Anniversary of The Legion of Superheroes (a theme from this year). Last year I was privileged enough to have a pin-up I did of Boba Fett make the book, in honor of Star War’s big 3-0. This year, I did something out of my usual realm.

Doc Savage is celebrating 75 years of existence, and to help mark this special occasion I did up a pin-up of the Man of Bronze himself! I don’t have the foremost knowledge on the good doctor, but I think he’s a pretty badass character and just had to take a shot a drawing him. I’ve sent the piece off for submission (fingers crossed it make it; it should) and wanted to share it with you fine folks that pop by this neck of the web-based universe. So here he is! Thanks for stopping by folks, and by all means, leave us a comment and let us know you swung by. Take care!

Just a little “Question” to keep things fresh.

Hey there folks! In keeping with my plan to update the site as often as possible, I thought I’d show off a simple little pin-up I did of my favorite Justice League Unlimited character, The Question. So here he is! He’ll also be posted in our gallery section, which has recently been updated by both myself and Brian! So pop on over there and check out the new stuff. And as always, thanks for popping by!

The Question

Take care all!

Slowly but surely, we’re clawing back!

Hey there folks! Although the site still has some work to do on it, I figured it was high time we started posting again and letting the good folks (that’s you!) who stop by here know what’s going on in the world of OOMS. First off, we’re all hard at work on various projects and ideas, and as soon as we can we’ll update you all on the various creative endeavors being birthed by us! But just to satisfy your curiosities, I’ll let you in on something I’m personally doing. In conjunction with my good friend Richard Grzela of 14u Comics (www.14ucomics.net) I’m working on the second installment of his Dual Convergence series. I’ve created my own set of characters and circumstances, and thanks to Mr. Grzela I’ve been given a pass to play in his sandbox and see what happens! Pop on over to his site to get more of an idea of what the Dual Convergence world has to offer.

And as is usually the case this time of year, it comic convention season! And us crazy guys here at OOMS will be making our way to a few shows in the upcoming months. First off, Brian and I will be in the Artist Alley for the Edmonton Collectible Toy and Comic Show on April 20. Details for this event can be found at:www.edtoyshow.com . Next, the whole crew (and then some) will be set up at the Calgary Expo on April 26 and 27 at the Round-up Center at Stampede Park. More detail for this show can be found at:www.calgaryexpo.com . Then the week after, Brian and I will be partaking in the Free Comic Book Day festivities put on by our good friends at Happy Harbor Comics in Edmonton. We’re not sure which of their 3 great locations we’ll be at yet, but keep popping back on here for more detail. FCBD is an international event taking place this year on May 3rd, and I urge you to get out to your local comic shop, pick up some free comics, and celebrate the spirit of the medium with everyone. Lastly, I will be making a road trip with my friends from Vicious Ambitious to check out the Emerald City Comic Con on the weekend of May 10 and 11, in beautiful Seattle, Washington. We’re going down to mingle and make new friends, and I’ll be bringing back a few stories from this trip I’m sure!

Thanks for popping by, and please bare with us. We have a lot of great things in store for you all! The site will continue to get upgraded and updated over the next month, and once we have things in order, we’re going to do our best to blow your minds! Take care all.
